About Me
I’m a licensed clinical social worker with over 46+ years of prior professional experience as a marriage and family therapist, vocational rehab counselor, supervisor, family service agency administrator, and adjunct college instructor. With that many years experience in working with a wide variety of people who've encountered a wide variety of situations and experiences, I've been able to accumulate a lot of wisdom (not bragging, just testifying) that I'm able to bring to bear to assist my clients. Now mostly retired, I offer online therapy on a part-time basis to adult (18+) individuals and couples in Ohio. Clients describe my style as steady, thoughtful, easy to talk to, and (appropriately) humorous. Sessions are structured enough to feel purposeful, but always grounded in what matters most to you. Though therapy deals with the challenges and trials of life, it should be something you enjoy and feel good about having done. Put simply, YOU drive your therapy and I serve as your "clinical travel guide." It would be my privilege to work with you!

2 Ways To Connect With Me
You can connect to me through Open Path: https://openpathcollective.org/clinicians/tim-knappenberger . There you will be asked for a one time only fee of $65.00 to become a member of Open Path and to be referred to me. By agreement, Open Path therapists adhere to a low cost, per session, self-pay fee model. You will provide Open Path with some confidential, basic information about yourself. That information will be forwarded to me. I will respond in 1-2 days. From there, I will send you an email asking if you'd prefer 1. an invitation to meet with me online, 2. to have me send you a brief intake form you can complete and return allowing you to share what you would like to meet about, or 3. both a meeting invitation and intake form.

Fees
For Individuals, I keep my fees between $50 - $70 per 50 minute session. For Couples, my fees are between $60 - $80 per 50 minute session. Extended sessions beyond 50 minutes incur an additional pro-rated amount. For comparative purposes, counselors billing insurance in Ohio charge an average of $120 - $150 per 50 minute session with client deductables and co-pays varying with their insurance coverage.
Why Self-pay only?
I do not bill insurance. Many clients choose private pay for privacy, flexibility, and to avoid the hassles of dealing with insurance requirements. As a result, I keep my fees purposely low and affordable in order to remove unnecessary obstacles to getting counseling.
Free New Client Consultation
For new referrals, I offer a free 15 minute consultation meeting to allow folks to see if what they're seeking matches with what I offer. That way clients can make more fully informed decisions before committing to counseling.
